HAWC Home

Providing decent, safe and affordable housing solutions that
strengthen our community by focusing on local needs.

Welcome to the HAWC Home page where our focus is on providing affordable housing solutions that protect children, seniors and persons with disabilities while helping people help themselves.

Homeownership

RTO, Rent-to-Own, enables moderate income families with credit issues to become homeowners.HAWC works with families to make homeownership possible.  Our Rent-to-Own initiative allows moderate income families who live or work in Washington County to lease the home they plan to purchase. During the rental period, the Home Store provides home-ownership counseling, and the Washington County Community Action Council provides a Homeownership Coach. In the RTO program, the rental period becomes a bridge to home-ownership success. (Click here to see our Rent-to-Own brochure, or follow this link to learn more about RTO.)

Priority for admission into our "scattered site" units (yet another variation on homeownership) goes to families that are enrolled in the Section 8 Family Self-Sufficiency Program. Scattered site tenants also have the option of buying their rental unit from the Authority, creating additional motivation for taking care of the units and working to build personal savings. Here are the links to view our Homeownership Plan for scattered site tenants or look at the first steps a tenant needs to take.

The HAWC Section 8 rental assistance program also incorporates a path to homeownership for families who are depending on full-time employment for income and who fully participate in the required homeownership coaching and counseling that is part of the Family Self-Sufficiency program.
